An extensive knowledge base in heterogeneous, homogenous and polymerization catalysis applied through high-throughput technology to help solve client problems.
Heterogeneous catalysis research workstream
The Symyx combination of high-throughput and rational experiment is designed to discover, screen and/or optimize new catalysts for a variety of industrial applications. Flexible research programs ranging from focused short-term to broad collaborative efforts give client access to Symyx scientists and unique parallel experimentation and analytical measurement technology.
Research Programs
Symyx applies parallel experimentation with over 10 years of catalyst development expertise applied to over 80 research programs with client ability to:
- Synthesize a large and diverse set of catalysts and screen for activity and selectivity to identify promising catalyst families to further explore
- Optimize existing catalysts by developing comprehensive data sets around new commercial targets
- Screen our client library of catalysts as a service
- Synthesize catalyst candidates by impregnation, precipitation, solvent evaporation, hydrothermal synthesis and other commercially-relevant methods
- Screen for activity, selectivity and optimize performance in gas, liquid, or high conversion multi-phase reactor systems
- Synthesize catalyst candidates covering a diverse range of metal precursors, ligands (from commercial sources, Symyx ligand archive or custom synthesized), activators, etc.
- Optimize catalyst performance by monitoring gas uptake, conversion, yield, selectivity and other properties
- Discover new single-site or Ziegler-Natta catalysts by screening hundreds of commercially available ligands, ligands from Symyx ligand archive (6,000+) or custom synthesized ligands
- Optimize catalyst performance based on catalyst activity and productivity as well as polymer properties such as molecular weight and distribution, composition, thermal, rheological and mechanical properties
