MDL® Assay Explorer® at Acumen Pharmaceuticals
Acumen integrates MDL Assay Explorer and Cellomics to get the most from image based assays
Acumen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (www.acumenpharm.com), a South San Francisco biotechnology company researching medicines and diagnostics for Alzheimer’s disease, needed a better way to manage the massive amounts of data from its image-based high content screening.
Sue Zhang, Acumen database and software administrator, worked with Elsevier MDL to create an integrated system combining Cellomics imaging system and MDL® Plate Manager and MDL® Assay Explorer.
"Now we use MDL Plate Manager for inventory management and checking on our assay plates," says Zhang. "With Plate Manager, building and tracking samples is quite simple. In just a few steps we can convert 96-well matrix plates to 384-well assay plates and get the correctly formatted plates built."
For data analysis, Acumen takes advantage of the powerful calculation engine in Assay Explorer and the ability to accommodate complicated assays with a flexible set-up.
"Processes that previously took two to three days of manual calculation, can now be accomplished in twenty to thirty minutes," she says. "Now all our users are happy. We utilize the best of both systems and have really increased our data analysis efficiency."
